What causes opioid addiction, and why is it so tough to combat? – Mike Davis
Explore the science of why opioids are addictive and what can be done to reverse the growing rates of addiction and overdose. If you or someone you know is …
If you or someone you know is struggling with opioid use in the United States, the Department of Health and Human Services operates a helpline: 800-662-4357, and has a database of treatment facilities and resources: https://www.hhs.gov/opioids/
This video describes a myth. It takes just a mere glance at the statistics to see that the rate of prescription opioid abuse and prescription opioid deaths has remained relatively stable over the past 2+ decades. The raise in opioid prescriptions began around 1995 as mentioned, but the number of opioid deaths didn't see a huge change until 2010. The fact that there had been 15 years of prescription behaviour with little change, but we are to believe they are causal really requires a much better explanation. Especially considering opioid use has been very rapidly declining since 2011, yet opioid abuse continues to rise to this day. On average a long term opioid abuser will continue to take opioids for 3 years after the initial prescription, that clearly doesn't tie in with the 15 year lag this theory suggests.
Also, this doesn't equate for other nations outside of America who also saw an opioid epidemic despite having decreasing opioid prescription. It would be far better described by the shift to Fentanyl in the illicit drug production market, and the radically more addictive and lethal properties that drug has. It would be far better explained by the 2007 global recession. Frankly almost anything explains it better than an addiction lasting 3 years killing people 15 years after the problem started. Its also not a great theory that doctors simply didn't understand that opioids were addictive. People like to tout this as an excuse, but they've been known to be very addictive since the early 1900s.
As an addict who has researched addiction extensively, this video is well researched and has great accurate info. I don’t even know how they found out about the noradrenaline thing because that is not at all common knowledge
As an opiate addict in recovery, I try to continue to learn about the disease that afflicts me and many others. I remember the many relapses, and how each time I relapsed, it took a shorter amount of time to become physically addicted again.
The last time I relapsed I only used probably 3 or 4 times over a week… and sure enough after the last time I started feeling withdrawal. When I started using I could use for two weeks straight and walk away with minimal withdrawal feelings, so it really shows how the drugs change the brain chemistry over time to be more dependent on them.
Thank God for methadone, it's the only reason I'm still alive. Opiates are just so addictive.. they are really far more addictive than any other drug.
Getting a cure for HIV is a powerful concept, often spoken of the HOLY GRAIL of HIV research. Although effective anti-HIV drugs have transformed HIV into a chronic manageable condition you live with rather than die from- taking life-long therapy is a very different proposition to being definitively cured. I put it to the whole human race that there is an affordable , scalable HIV cure that worked as well as would put the global eradication of new HIV infections within reach, while also transforming the lives of those now living with the virus. given the effectiveness of this drugs in both treating and preventing HIV infection, I will say to everyone reading this , that I'm a living witness to it. unlike fraudsters and online scammers who will play you and leave you frustrated with lose of money and hope, this drugs cost less and it is worth a try. if you are interested in getting cured of your HIV, and all kinds of cancer and other deadly diseases Below is the communication link of the doctor who has the new medicine which I took that got me cured totally. Doctor Harvey.

the whole concept of "willpower" being something noble is rooted in organized religion and has no place for the 21st century. this video is so well produced and informative.
Does anyone else have tears strolling down their eyes watching this? This heartache is real. To watch people you love go through it and break down because of it is soul-crushing. The number one thing you can do is be there for people who have to choose between their job and their health.
Sitting down with people who have lived experience as been a life changing for us on our channel. Addiction is tough, but I believe we need to do better as a community and ensure that we defeat stigma, as well as support people so that less and less people turn to addiction.
Great video but they didn’t mention that withdrawal kills. And I don’t know why. They said it’s so dangerous but didn’t say how people die from it trying to stop. That’s so real and so many people who haven’t been through it have no idea and have the normal negative assumptions about this. They probably wouldn’t even believe how people die from it.
And many more side effects with withdrawal they didn’t include, kinda skimmed over but I guess it wasn’t a video of opioid withdrawal but how they’re addictive. Withdrawal alone could be a whole other video.
Understanding the physiology and what happens in the body and brain while going through withdrawals, can be just that tiny difference between roughing it out and giving in. The withdrawals are like feeling your dog just died while going through the worst flu you ever experienced. All that time painfully aware that another dose would simply take it all away. That being said I do think understanding the mechanisms can give a person that extra confidence to manage through the worst.
I have an idea every time someone is being prescribed a possibly addictive drug, a small amount of their money will be taxed for their own fund in a rehibition account
We should simply ban all advertising of prescription medications. Not that this will be a cure-all for the opioid crisis, but it least it's a start. And we can do right NOW.
Some of us LIKE our opiods, & take them responsibly, even long term. Why should WE lose what works for us, bcuz some people can't handle NOT abusing them. Let's face it: If suburban white kids weren't dropping dead, there wouldn't even be a discussion.

I've seen this Netflix documentary The Pharmacist
they’re weak willed losers. They don’t care about their own life. They’re willing to risk an overdose everytime they choose to do drugs.

great video! probably should have been more on withdrawal symptoms, particularly the mental side. it's far more than just 'being sick'.
